Sewing Inspiration from TV and Movies: See It, Sew It!
I find sewing inspiration for my projects in all sorts of places. So often, I see something out in the wild, and I immediately want to sew it! So I decided to start a new series here on Sew Daily called See It, Sew It, starting with some groovy inspo from the new show Daisy Jones and the Six, which is based on the book Daisy Jones and the Six. Have you read it or watched it?
The book is a fun read, and the series does not disappoint either. I just finished binging it this week. I love anything to do with the ’70s—the vibe, the music, the home décor, and of course, the fashion! It was a groovy decade full of drama and details. This new series on Amazon has it all. A group of talented actors play the rock and roll characters from the book, and the story is romantic, compelling, and entertaining. However, it’s the fashion that takes center stage for me.
The Pattern Search
My first step in this project was creating a Pinterest board. I wanted to capture some of the fashion details from the decade, the show, and the classic rock band that inspired the book and the series, Fleetwood Mac. Take a look at my board so far.
I also searched through my vintage pattern stash to see if anything fit the bill. I have quite a few groovy patterns in my collection!
I am obsessed with the idea of a cropped wrap top with bell sleeves paired with flared jeans, and I want to recreate this ‘fit with a modern twist. Here are a few pattern ideas that could totally work.
The Oyster Wrap Blouse
This blouse would be the perfect pattern to hack for a ’70s-inspired top. Just a tweak to the sleeve to make it bell-shaped and flowy is pretty much all it would take.
The Bala Top
This one is also a great option, and I can see it stitched up in a retro floral print that would take it to that groovy place I am dreaming about.
Jude Flare Jeans
The new jeans pattern from Closet Core has been on my to-sew list since they came out earlier this year, and I think they will be the perfect pair of pants to complete my rock star outfit goals.
Once complete, I can even tick off one of the boxes on my retro-inspired #makenine2023 project list … a pair of jeans!
