Sew News 2018: A Year in Review
Before we jump into 2019 – all those resolutions and planning that we love – we wanted to take a quick look back at some of our favorites from Sew News 2018.
We introduced a new column this year called Clothes Minded and welcomed a variety of sewing stars on to discuss their wardrobe planning process. From Riva of Riva la Diva, Erin of Style Sew Me, Rachel Pinheiro of House of Pinheiro, Allie Olson of Indiesew.com and Sandra Betzina to a variety of members from the online sewing community, we discussed all things planning, creating balance, finding your style and seasonal tips and trends. I learned a lot!
We also welcomed Abby Glassenberg this year, with The Common Thread column. From sorting out the language we use to describe our hobby and our fabric supplies to keeping a journal to exploring how we learned to sew, Abby’s column added so much depth to the magazine this year.
We brought you a few pattern reviews, too! In April/May, we talked tees. In June/July, we created reviews for 10 tank top patterns, both knit and woven. Our goal was to show the patterns on a variety of real bodies (including our own) and to give you info you could use….we hope you enjoyed!
My favorite articles from the year were the ones that focused on capsules. Back in February/March, we shared info on the 10×10 wardrobe challenge. For August/September, we created a workwear wardrobe. And for December/January, we put together (and sewed!) a collection of holiday separates, perfect for party wear and beyond.
Let us know what your favorites from 2018 were in the comments below and/or what you’d like to see more of in the coming year. We’ve got so many new and exciting plans in the works for you in 2019 – we’ll share more of that in January. If you missed an issue, you can find them here. In the meantime, thanks so much for being part of the Sew News and CME family.
