Meet Sadie Metter!
Hi sewists! My name is Sadie Metter, and I am the new Content Creator on the sewing team at Sew Daily. I am thrilled to be here and share my love of sewing with our fantastic community.
You may recognize me since I have been a contributor to Sew News magazine for a while now. I am passionate about sustainable sewing, and I love creating earth- and budget-friendly projects. However, I have an extensive fabric collection and a goal to shop my stash for new projects this year. I consider each folded piece of fabric on my shelf a little bundle of possibilities.
My sewing history is a common one. My grandmother and mother were both incredible sewists and taught me how to sew. I feel incredibly fortunate to have passed this creative skill on to my two teenage daughters. They now stitch, upcycle and refashion thrift store finds to meet their ever-changing and ambitious fashion goals. I taught them well, and I am a proud mama. Besides my girls, I have taught others to sew at kid’s summer camps, women’s restorative retreats, and private one-on-one lessons in my former sewing studio in North Denver. I also love to make jewelry and incorporate fabric scraps whenever I can.
One of the things I am looking forward to in my new role here at Sew Daily is learning all about machine embroidery. I foresee many new embroidered garments, accessories, and home décor in my future. I am dreaming about how machine embroidery can elevate my handmakes and refashions. The creative possibilities are endless!
My Favorite Designs
I want to share three of my favorite Sew Daily designs. These projects are fun, creative, and simple to make, plus, they also embrace my frugal and sustainable sewing goals.
The Sewstainable Jacket Pack
I have back-to-school time on the brain and all the items my kids will be needing. This backpack project is unique because I used a thrifted leather coat and some leather paint to make this roomy and functional bag a one-of-a-kind statement piece. I even kept the original coat pocket as a feature on the inside front of the pack.
I used the Classic Canvas Pack pattern for this project to create this bag.
The Now + Layer Top
This top is one of my favorites to stitch up for many reasons. It’s a breeze to make, and since it is six rectangles stitched together, it creates little fabric waste. This top is so comfortable to wear and super stylish. Bonus, it can be made in many diverse fabrics or layered to make it a seasonless garment. I suggest sewing it up in a dressier fabric for date night or a heavier structured fabric like wool for a cool-weather poncho. So many options!
The Upcycling Sewing Webinar Bundle
This bundle includes the three webinars I created that are all about upcycling: DIY Fabric Manipulation, Home Décor Upcycling, and Refashioning. I’m passionate about all three topics, and you can get a little peek at some of my own upcycles for my home.
I can’t wait to share the exciting things happening in the sewing community, fun project ideas, and new sewing patterns.
Happy sewing,
Sadie Metter
