Denim Dreams: 10 Jeans Sewing Patterns to Consider
Stick around here long enough and you may begin to think about sewing your own custom jeans. And why not? Jeans are expensive, it’s hard to find the perfect fit, and sewing your own might just save you money. Denim fabric is relatively easy to source and affordable. If you find yourself intimidated, keep in mind that jeans are just pants, with a few added details. Pick a pattern from our recommendations below and jump in!
Ginger Jeans and Morgan Jeans by Closet Core Patterns
These jeans sewing patterns are some of the first indie jeans patterns, beloved in the sewing community. Choose from Ginger, a stretch skinny jean in sizes 0-20 with rise options and a flare leg expansion option, or the Morgan, a rigid jean in sizes 0-20 with leg shape options.
Lander Pants by True Bias
Not a true jeans pattern, the Lander Pants offer a classic wide leg silhouette and sew up well in a variety of sturdy fabrics, including denim. Available in sizes 0-18, the pants have a trendy button fly, but there’s also a zip fly pattern expansion for a more classic look.
Ash Jeans and Dawn Jeans by Megan Nielsen Patterns
Available in curve and straight sizes, the Ash and Dawns jeans have become an indie favorite in this category. Check out the Ash for a skinny option with stretch. For a rigid denim option, consider the Dawn Jeans.
Ames Jeans by Cashmerette
Available in sizes 12-32, the Ames Jeans were built with curves in mind. With all the classic jeans details that you love, the pattern is designed for stretch denim, with a skinny or straight leg option.
Noice Jeans by Muna and Broad
The Noice Jeans are a relatively new indie option. Available in size A-M (with expanded sizing available on request), this pattern is designed for non-stretch denim, featuring an ultra-high rise and wide and narrow leg shaping.
Calamint Jeans by Mood Fabric
The Calamint Jeans is a FREE patterns in sizes 2 to 30. With a high waist and wide leg option, these are the ultimate mom jeans. We haven’t tested this pattern, but the tutorial offers ample visuals for more visual learners. The pricepoint (aka free) makes it a nice option for people who are unsure about jeans!
Jilly Jean by Style Arc
Available in sizes 4 – 30, the Jilly Jeans offer a classic jeans silhouette. This design sits at the waistline, with a straight leg.
Burda Style #101 Jeans from 12/2017
Many people know and love the classic Burda Style pant fit, and they also translate well to jeans! This pair is without a waistband, but has figure-shaping darts and a continuous buttoned fly. We can’t forget to mention our favorite feature: those adorable hem flounces that add a unique touch to the style.
Burda Style #126 Jeans from 10/2013
If you have different denim off-cuts why not piece them together for a patchwork look! These Burda Style pants are a great option for this technique because of their simple and classic silhouette with minimal details.
