Advent Calendar 2017 – Freebies & Inspiration
Are you ready to start counting down to Christmas? The “Circle of Joy” project from the December 2017/January 2018 issue of Sew News is a great and uniquely fun way to do that!
This advent wreath is made from cotton and felt supported by a large embroidery hoop. Hanging from buttons on the wreath are more, tiny embroidery hoops, each numbered with hand embroidery (or machine embroidery, if you prefer).
The mini hoops hold a surprise — on the back of each one is an activity that will help you and your family get into the Christmas spirit. They can be as simple as “make hot cocoa” or as heartwarming as “bring cookies to the fire station.” We’ve also included blank versions so you can add your family’s own special traditions. The whole set can be printed on a sheet of 1”-diameter labels and used as you see fit.
As you count down the days, place the mini-hoops in the little bag designed to hang on the back of the wreath.
There’s still time to make this adorable and unique project. Our sample only used 12 days, but it’s easy to make 24 instead to ensure that the whole month of December is filled with holiday fun. Download the patterns and templates at sewnews.com/web_extras, and find the instructions in the Dec/Jan issue of Sew News, available on newsstands now and at shopsewitall.com.
