3 Cozy Makes for the Freezin’ Season
Brr—it’s cold out there! I live in Spokane, Washington, and as I write this we’re in the midst of getting six to 10 inches of snow. Clearly, it’s time to wrap up, and I’m in the mood for some cozy sewing patterns to work on while I’m snowed in.
Bring on the Cozy Sewing Patterns!
I found three main patterns, but there are many more than that here. If fact, one is a collection of cozy sewing patterns, and I’m going to link to a couple of freebies we love, too. We’re all about a bonus, and I couldn’t limit myself on this post—it’s too chilly to leave a great project on the curb. ❄️
Moebius Cowl Pattern
A luxurious cashmere cowl goes with anything; case in point, have a cashmere knit cowl that I often wear to the grocery store with my favorite sweatshirt and leggings. The Moebius Cowl has a little more style, though, with its namesake twist. It’s super simple to sew, the fabric does all the work here—for great results, choose very soft merino wool, cashmere, or sueded rayon. You’ll wear this all winter for many seasons to come. It makes a great unisex gift, too.
Wondering what a moebius twist is? It’s mathy in origin, and fascinating in its simplicity.
Plush Pattern Collection
Part of our Capsule Studio series, the Plush Collection is perfect for this time of year. The styles all mix and match together with comfortable silhouettes in cushy and textured fabrics like wool, Sherpa, sweater knit, double gauze, jersey, and faux fur.
There are six patterns in the collection, and three in particular that you’ll want to whip up immediately: The Kawartha Cardi Jacket—a quick sew with a shawl collar and open front; the Banff Dolman Sweater—both comfy and chic; and the Whistler Bucket Bag—a statement bucket bag sewn in faux fur.
The Kawartha Jacket is really speaking to me during this snow dump. It’s sewn in Sherpa fabric, but Meg has some suggestions for fabric choices:
Watch Meg sew this pattern live, using Sherpa fabric with sweatshirt fabric for a really fun result!
Faux Fur for the Win!
Not shown in the collage photo above is the Whistler Bucket Bag, which is something else! I would use a chain strap and carry it on New Year’s Eve for sure. How about you?
Sewing with plush fabric and faux fur can be tricky, but it’s so perfect for cozy sewing patterns! We’ve put together a how-to for working with these fabrics.
Tea Bag Cozy
What’s cozier than a cup of tea when it’s cold? Two cups! Keep your pot warm with this fun cozy sewing pattern. It adds a touch of whimsy to your table and is a fantastic gift for the tea lovers in your life. This + a cute tea pot = a fave gift contender!
If you’re a coffee lover, make a cozy for your favorite cup or mug. Sadie recently made some cozies out of leather scraps—so cool!
I hope you’re staying warm and sewing some snuggly projects! Before the snow started, I made a quick dash to the grocery store to stock up our pantry, but I should have added a trip to the fabric store for some plush fabric to sew during the storm. Alas, I’ll just have to make do with browsing cozy sewing patterns.
Stay cozy, friends!
Kathleen
P.S. Listening to podcasts (while you sew!) is a fun thing to do on a snow day. Here’s an episode of Sew & Tell all about—you guessed it—winter makes. Listen to Sew Cozy now!
