Sew News Escapes, an exclusive sewcation, is a unique way for sewists to come together, learn from a sewing expert and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow devotees in this intimate, retreat-style event. This Fall we are escaping to Savannah, Georgia from September 10-13, 2023 with Monica Tetteh. We will also be joined by our Interweaves Escape retreat. Each community will attend their respective workshop, and then come together for meals and our off-site excursion.
Torn between Southern belle and jezebel, Savannah can’t help herself when it comes to wooing visitors and locals alike. Just steps away from legendary River Street in downtown Savannah’s historic district, The Kimpton Brice Hotel promises to make your Savannah stay a magical one. This escape will be filled with education, inspiration, history, and of course delicious meals and an off-site adventure.
What You’ll Learn & Create
Scarf Bag
Discover the art of modern bag making in our dynamic sewing workshop focused on creating a stylish tote with scarf handles. Join us for a five-hour session where you’ll learn essential skills such as the rolled hem, bag lining, and zipper installation. Our experienced instructors will guide you through each step, teaching you the techniques needed to create a polished and functional tote. Master the art of the rolled hem for a clean and professional finish on the scarves, learn how to line a bag to add structure and durability, and gain confidence in installing zippers for secure and stylish closures. Unleash your creativity and leave with a chic tote featuring unique scarf handles that will make a fashion statement wherever you go. This workshop is for all skill levels, with only a basic sewing knowledge needed. All supplies will be provided for the students.

Modern Tunic
Unleash your fashion-forward creativity in our exclusive sewing workshop focused on creating a stunning tunic from the Sew Daily Holiday Capsule Collection that exudes style and sophistication. Led by our skilled instructors, this immersive six-hour session will guide you through the step-by-step process of sewing a modern tunic with a V-neck, built-in cap sleeves, and a front slit that gracefully accentuates your natural waist. From mastering the construction of the v-neck to skillfully creating French seams throughout, our instructors will provide expert guidance, ensuring you develop the techniques needed to bring your vision to life. Join us for this empowering workshop and learn how to create a standout tunic that combines contemporary design elements with impeccable craftsmanship. This workshop is for all skill levels, with only a basic sewing knowledge needed. All supplies will be provided for the students.

About Your Sewing Instructor
Sew Monica is the fashion sewing blogger behind the magi of That’s Sew Monica. Her sewing journey was ignited several years ago in an effort to honor her late mother’s legacy. Along this journey other passions were discovered that increased her love for all things DIY, crafting, sewing, & creating memorable art pieces where she inspires others, and is inspired herself. Bringing people together through the love of our shared crafts presents one of the things she cherishes the most…community.

- Single – $2,750 Early Bird : Enjoy your own room with luxury accommodations. All meals and activities included.
- Double – $2,350 Early Bird: Share a room with one of your favorite sewing friends and enjoy luxury accommodations. All meals and activities included.
- Companion – $1,700 Early Bird: Want to bring a non-sewing guest or spouse? Select a “single room” at checkout and your companion can participate in all non-sewing activities/meals.
*Please note: When registering for a double option, please make sure you have a roommate who is also registering. If not, we will do our best to match you with someone. If we are unable to match you, then we will need to upgrade you to a single room and you will be responsible for pay the different in rate. The pricing listed is for each student in the double.
