  1. Amanda, Kate, and Meg,

Yes, fun episode. Brought back memories … I used to travel 2-3 weeks a month for work (now retired), yet I always made my children’s Halloween costumes. Well before 9/11, when planes were not full, I would take the (Big 4) tissue paper patterns and would cut them out (I would have the 3 seats to myself and would spread pattern out on the 3 trays). Not ideal but it was costumes after all! (Also, the best scissors were small and not that sharp so I could get thru security.)

Regarding sewing machines, we have a summer “cottage” on Lake Ontario (in NY), and I bring a machine (Elna 1010), (I had bought for my daughter, but she never took to sewing) that I use as my backup. I like sewing by the big window and looking at the Lake!

Sort of related … my brother used the Elna to make a jacket for a powwow (he is part of a drum group). Since then, he makes all his regalia all by hand sewing. It is impressive, at least to me.

    Love the podcast.
