Description
Bring a new dimension to classic botanical artwork with a
bouquet of hand appliqué and embroidery
techniques. Fabrics ranging from simple solid cotton to textural silk and velvet
blend with a variety of stitches to recreate the distinctive characteristics of
three flower-garden favorites. Embroidered lettering adds to the vintage appeal.
Fabric Requirements:
- ¼ yd linen blend for background (shown: turquoise)
- Three 7″ squares of cotton prints for seed packet backgrounds (shown: script
prints) - Scraps of solid cotton fabric for marigolds (shown: 3 shades of yellow),
each at least 2″ square - 2 scraps of lightweight silk dupioni for poppy petals (shown: deep red and
fuchsia), each at least 4″ square - 2 scraps of slubbed silk dupioni for poppy and celosia leaves (shown: 2
shades of green), each at least 4″ square - 2 scraps of silk or rayon velvet for celosias (shown: orange and red), each
at least 2″ x 3″ - Scraps of solid cotton fabric for packet labels, each at least 7″ x 7″ and
large enough to be held in a 5″ embroidery hoop (shown: various neutrals)
