This master class is broken up into eight chapters made up of short videos and handouts. Katrina will guide you through creating your very own serger reference notebook. Your notebook will be packed full of stitching examples and information specifically for your serger and will become a lifetime tool for you to reference and share if you decide to become a serger instructor!

Katrina starts the class with mastering serger basics, which is perfect for beginners and serves as a great reminder for more advanced students. She reviews the anatomy of a serger and goes through all the tools and notions needed. Katrina will also get you over those fears of threading your serger by walking you through the process in a way that will help build your serger threading confidence.

Supplies:

  • 4 or 5 Thread Serger (Air threader sergers will be addressed in the class as well, but not required.)
  • Serger thread (Yellow, Green, Blue, Red and Purple)
  • General serger supplies and notions. (Tool included with your serger and other general sewing supplies.)
  • Your serger manual (Most manuals can be found and printed out online.)
  • 3-Ring Binder (6 inch to hold sewing samples)
  • Clear 3-ring sleeves to hold sewing samples in binder.
  • Fabric cut into strips for samples. (Muslin, Tule, Jersey, etc…)

Katrina Walker is a designer, educator and author known for her creative and innovative use of embroidery machines and software. She is a columnist for Creative Machine Embroidery magazine, and her design work is regularly commissioned for runway and promotional garments for the sewing industry.
