Creative Machine Embroidery New Mar/Apr 2018 Issue
The March/April 2018 issue of Creative Machine Embroidery just hit newsstands, and we couldn’t be more excited for you to explore it!
The cover features an amazing leather handbag by Katrina Walker. The related article will teach you all the fine points of embroidering on heavyweight leather — what needles and stabilizers to use, how to choose the best design and how to treat your leather after embroidery to eliminate any distortion. Learn all the tricks on page 34.
If you’re always looking for a different way to feature embroidery on your garments, check out the Oh Geo My Top on back 56. Add a series of geometric designs reminiscent of strung beads to the yoke area of any button-down blouse pattern fora fun and unique effect. Make sure to download the free Geo Bead designs at cmemag.com/freebies.
We’re fans of ITH projects here at CME, and the Bunny Ears project in this issue is super cute! Use felt and cotton to create the ears, then attach them to a purchased headband using the tabs at the bottom of each ear. Maribou trim is optional, but adds a fun touch!
Our CME collection this month is called Southwest Story — a collection of designs, many of them borders, inspired by the art and design of the American Southwest. We debated a while about how we could best showcase the collection, and in the end we decided to make a few projects — the Sedona Skirt features a delicate hem border made by combining the elegant Desert Musings and Mesa Musings line designs and a waistband accentuated by the Arrowhead Border design. We also used the Arrowhead Border on one of the Mexicali Cuffs, along with the Diamond Border and Radiant Arrows designs. We love the way they turned out! Download the Arrowhead Border design for free from cmemag.com/freebies and find the rest of the collection at shopsewitall.com.
Another standout project in this issue is the Sew & Stow embroidered train case. It starts with the classic Crimson & Clover Train Cases from Sew Sweetness and adds a tufted top and bottom with embroidered button detail and a matching all-around border. It’s a complex project, but the end result is so striking that we think it’s more than worth it. All of the designs for this project are available free for a limited time, so be sure to grab those at cmemag.com/freebies before they expire on April 30.
The issue contains plenty of other great techniques and projects, including pulled threadwork, pressing tips, an adorable child’s dress with an ITH curved hem, a purse strap with 3D insect motifs, and more! Find the March/April 2018 issue of Creative Machine Embroidery on newsstands until April 16, 2018 or at shopsewitall.com indefinitely.
