Sewing knitwear can be a difficult feat! Are you working with a 2-way stretch or a 4-way stretch? How do you cut the patterns out? If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, this course is perfect for you! In this online course, you’ll learn all about the many different cuts of knits that you can sew with. The instructor, Dyanne Marte, will review the different kinds of stretch materials that are appropriate to use for dresses, skirts, tops and swimwear. Learn all about stretch ratios, ease reductions and fabric weights. You will also learn how to construct 4 projects including a knit top, skirts, dress and a swimsuit. All patterns are included with course purchase!
After taking this course, you will be able to identify a single knit jersey, a double knit jersey, tricot, and other types of stretch knits. You will be able to make the distinction between a top weight and a bottom weight knit. Dyanne will work through some examples of fabric weights, converting grams per square meter to ounces per square yard. We will determine fabric weights by using our senses and comparing different fabrics.
This is especially useful when the supplier does not provide information of a particular fabric. You will also have a better understanding of which types of settings to use when sewing with your serger. Dyanne will walk you through stitch settings, stitch lengths and differential feed settings. For those times where we will need to use a traditional home machine, Dyanne will also show you the different stitch settings that can be used for top stitching, and finishes. Best of all, you will have 4 gorgeous pieces that you will add to your wardrobe!
