Introduction to Garment Sewing – Dresses and Tops 101 focuses on key construction components often found in basic dress, top, and blouse patterns. So even if you have never made a garment before, by the end of this course you will be able to confidently sew yourself or a friend a brand new dress and top! The course begins with all things tops, and instructor Meg will guide you through every step to complete a blouse, detailing tips and techniques for choosing fabric, interfacing, and notions. You will learn all the necessary sewing skills to complete the included blouse pattern, and you’ll even have the ability to ask Meg for help along the way.

Once you conquer the blouse sewing techniques, the next portion of the course will cover techniques to sew two different dresses (patterns included)! Don’t know which fabric is suitable for a specific dress pattern? Always feeling overwhelmed in a fabric store? Not to worry, Meg will talk through the process of choosing appropriate fabrics and necessary notions like machine needles. The course begins with the basics, like sewing curved seams, and works up to pockets! Who doesn’t love pockets in their dress? Meg will also provide instruction for beginner finishing options as an alternative to the more difficult sewing techniques demonstrated.

The sewing (and pattern drafting) techniques taught within this course will enable you to construct a variety of beginner top and dress patterns. Meg will teach how to sew the three sample patterns step-by-step , but she’ll also provide several more that you can sew using the knowledge you learned in this course! So if you are new to sewing, and know the basics but have not tackled a garment yet, then you have to register for this course!
