How to Sew a Hip Pocket into a Dress

Run Time: 23 minutes

Panels with corners and points are hard to sew and even more so with an integrated pocket. For those of you who have our infamous Matthew Williamson designer or V-Neck Little Black Dress, you know that the front hip pocket is tricky to sew. There is a pointed side panel that integrates into a pocket with pouch in the pattern and it can be hard to determine how to sew it accurately from the written instructions. Meg has sewn this dress a couple times now and perfected the practice of getting the panel pocket just right. She’ll show you how to mark the piece and the order in which to sew. Once you nail this technique in the dress the rest is a breeze!

A note from the presenter:

This dress pattern is a lovely fit but even I took a couple tries to sew the pocket panel. Sadly this dress pattern is no longer available on our site, but for those of you who already have it this video will be of value to you.” – Meg Healy
