Have you ever found yourself sketching and/or doodling garment design ideas? Do you ever say to yourself, I wish I could make this garment I designed. Well, with this course you can! You will learn how to utilize a fashion croquis to make designer-like sketches, and then break down those sketches into design elements and transform your paper sewing pattern to bring your sketch to life.

This course includes:

basic skirt sloper
basic bodice sloper
drawing templates (fashion croquis)

You will learn about the sloper guidelines and use points of reference in your sketch and on your pattern to draft the most accurate and true-to-sketch pattern. You will learn how to draw and add fullness, such as gathers and pleats, into your designs, as well as add style lines that do and don’t incorporate the dart intake. You will have so much fun with the exercises and quizzes in class that test your dart manipulation knowledge and enable you to learn more effectively.

In this course we cover skirts and sleeveless bodices. The skirt and bodice sew together along the waistline so you can design, draft, and sew dresses as well! You will learn what a Master Pattern is, and how you trace off pattern pieces and add the correct amount of seam allowance and grain line. You will learn how to easily alter the silhouette and shape of your garment, as well as change up the neckline. Draw the neckline and armhole shape on your sketch and see how to develop it on your sloper. This online course will walk you drafting a series of provided sketches, and then designing and drafting your own with help from Meg Healy! With the help of this course, you will be your own designer and pattern maker and create truly unique garments!
