About this Sew-Along:
Sew a classic wool coat perfect for cooler days! Join Amanda Carestio and Kate Zaynard, the editors behind Sew News magazine and hosts of the Sew & Tell podcast, to learn how in this sew-along.
The Copper Mountain Coat has a classic, cape-like feel and is great for casual wear or for a cool night out. It’s unlined and has only a single button, so it’s a perfect starting point for sewists who are interested in sewing outerwear but intimidated by more complicated patterns. The construction steps are easy – there aren’t even set-in sleeves – but you’ll be delighted with the final result.
Follow along with Kate and Amanda and sew the coat of your dreams. Start with tips for selecting the right fabric – in this case, an outerweight wool like Melton – and tips for working successfully with wool. Then jump right in with the construction, including details on how to add a cool colorblocked effect. You’ll make a bound buttonhole, install facings, stitch an almost-invisible hem and love the finished outcome: an elegant coat that you’ll want to show off!
This sew-along is brought to you by our lovely sponsors whose products were used in the creation of this sew-along. Thank you:
Additional thanks to Pendleton for providing the lovely wool fabric used for the featured coats.
