Testimonials
“Its great to see a range of costumes with different skill sets and skill levels to make cosplay less intimidating. Some series have such high levels of complexity in the costumes that it is a “WOW, that a great costume….. I could never do or compete with that”. There is enough “I can do that”….. to inspire and enough “I could learn/ try that” to grow.” – SC, 6/19/19

“I picked up some ideas on what Cons are like these days. Thank you!” – MR, 6/19/19.

Get Excited for Season 3 of the Con Crunch Challenge

Meet the cosplayers participating in Season 3 and get excited for their inspiring makes!

Episode 1: Wigging Out with Laharl — NOW AVAILABLE
In this episode of Con Crunch Challenge cosplayer Jade will attempt to create the wig of one of her favorite characters Laharl from the video game Disgaea 5. Jade is an award-winning cosplayer who comes off calm and collected, but will the Con Crunch Challenge put her to the ultimate test and break her cool façade?

About: Simple, fun-loving, and smarter than the average bear (maybe), J’adore Cosplay/Notgrima is a Denver-based cosplayer and crafter of 8 years. She has attended several conventions all over the United States, winning master-level craftsmanship or Best in Show awards from many of their cosplay contests. She favors sewing, wig styling, and latex work. Her ultimate goal for cosplay is not only to showcase her work, but to make everyone feel accepted and loved in the cosplay community by spreading positive messages, memes, and love in any way she can. She says that no matter where you’re from or what you look like, if you want to cosplay then you deserve to have fun and give it a go.

Episode 2: Jester’s Embellished Jacket from Critical Role — NOW AVAILABLE
As a disabled, LGBTQ Cosplayer, Magnus Rose has made it their mission in cosplay to make sure all cons are accessible to all cosplayers, especially those with a disability. Magnus is studying historical costuming which should come in very handy for the character Jester’s embellished jacket from Critical Role they plan to complete in two hours!

About: Magnus (Magpie) Rose, a seamstress of 17 years, has been an active cosplayer since 2013. As a designer, they favour original twists on classic characters and complex detail work to bring their creations to life. While winning a variety of costume based awards for craftsmanship and creativity, a large part of their interactions focus on their activism and charity work. As a member of the LGBTQ+ and disabled con community, they have run panels, consulted with convention head’s, and worked with hotels and event centres to not only make sure that cons are a safe environment for all but an accessible one as well.

Episode 3: Kyoshi Warrior Garb from Avatar: The Last Airbender — NOW AVAILABLE
Kate & Mark have been happily married for years, but will their marriage survive the Con Crunch Challenge? They plan to create Suki’s Kyoshi Warrior garb from Avatar: The Last Airbender for Kate. Mark is more into Live Action Role Playing and Kate is a costume designer and sewist so creating a cosplay costume is a new adventure for them both!

About: Kate started her costuming experience (and sewing knowledge) in the theater, which she majored in before spending several years working in a costume shop. There, she made everything from Victorian wedding dresses to stinky sock costumes… for other people. She went on to editorial work, which eventually collided with her sewing knowledge when she started working for Sew News and Creative Machine Embroidery magazines. She takes a few days off every year to volunteer at her local anime convention and bask in cosplay. These days she mostly sews everyday basics for herself, but she always loves the opportunity to pull out her costuming skills.

Mark is a geek of every stripe (except the circus kind). A long-time dabbler in costume and prop-making, Mark has started hundreds of projects in the last twenty-five years (a few of which even got finished!). He’s tried his hand at most of the usual crafts, and even some unusual ones (such as armoring), which have given him a wide, if flighty, skill set. In his free time, he is generally wrapped around his cats’ fuzzy little toes.

Episode 4: Life Size Baby Yoda — NOW AVAILABLE
The Child (AKA, Baby Yoda) has taken the world by storm and cosplayer Kat of Diamonds fell hard for our baby green friend. With the head of her life size Baby Yoda cosplay finished, Kat will try to create a custom robe to complete her Baby Yoda cosplay!

About: Kat goes by KatOfDiamonds as her cosplayer and Internet handle and has been cosplaying since 2012. Her grandmother helped her make her first TARDIS dress to attend her first con and she’s been using YouTube, friends, and prayers to the cosplay gods to teach herself new skills ever since. In July 2018, she started streaming her costuming builds on Twitch where she stays true to the motto “cosplaying by the seat of my pants!” Streaming allows Kat to talk cosplay and troubleshooting with her viewers and provide a safe, fun space for her community to learn and create along with her. Being involved in cosplay has inspired Kat to start bodypainting and building that skill set into her repertoire.
