Bound buttonholes lend a professional, tailored look to any jacket. Discover two methods of creating these classic buttonholes.

This method works best with lighter weight fabrics. The buttonholes are installed after the jacket has been constructed but before adding the facings and lining.

Determine the placement of the buttonholes on the jacket. Make sure to allow enough space from the front edge for the chosen button size and to sew the facings onto the jacket. For example, a 5/8 space between the end of the buttonhole to the front edge of the jacket will accommodate a 7/8 to 1 button.…
