About the Team
Amanda Carestio, Editor-in-Chief
My mom taught me to sew at an early age but it wasn’t until high school when I sewed my first garment from a pattern…from there, I was hooked. I’ve been in craft publishing for over 10 years. From independent pattern makers to crazy good fabrics to incredible home sewists, this community constantly inspires me. I love sewing basics, usually in neutral. Follow along as I work toward a fully memade wardrobe on Instagram at @popofneutral.
Kate Zaynard, Managing Editor
I started sewing when I was in college studying theatrical costuming.Later I found myself employed in a costume shop, where I enjoyedworking with historical patterns and turning a design into reality.Though my sewing was sporadic for several years after I left the theaterfor editorial work, I have always cherished the sense of accomplishmentI get when I take fabric and turn into something I can wear or use. Andnow, being the Creative Editor for Sew News, Creative Machine Embroidery and Sew It All allowsme to combine my editorial career with a love of sewing – what could bebetter? As a bonus, after all those years of sewing costumes for otherpeople, I’m finally getting to sew and embroider everyday garments andbags for myself.
Meg Healy, Content Producer
I had the urge to sew at a young age when I wanted to wear a custom lime green, mermaid style dress to my grade 8 graduation that I made as my first garment. My passion for creating eventually led me to study Fashion Design in both London, Canada and New York City. While interning for Vera Wang and BurdaStyle during my studies, I was encouraged to accept a full time position with BurdaStyle where I served as the online editor and face of BurdaStyle.com for nearly 7 years inspiring and teaching sewists around the world. I’m now excited to work as a content creator for Sew Daily while also continuing to develop, film and instruct online sewing videos for Sew Daily TV and BurdaStyle Academy. Truly thrilled for this new chapter in my career with Sew Daily where I’m eager to share even more of my sewing, design, and creative expertise – stay tuned! You can also catch me on the sewing podcast Sew & Tell that I co-host with Amanda and Kate where I share many sewing (and bunny) stories. When not sewing, I enjoy time with my husband going to art galleries, cycling around the city, and of course cuddling our pet giant rabbit. Find me here as well as my @meg.says.sew Instagram account. Happy Sewing!
