EDITORIAL TEAM

Amanda Carestio, Senior Editor

My mom taught me to sew at an early age but it wasn’t until high school when I sewed my first garment from a pattern…from there, I was hooked. My mom was a reading teacher and my dad was a physics teacher: I think editing sewing instructions might be somewhere in between! I’ve been in craft publishing for almost 10 years. From new independent pattern makers to crazy good fabric designers, this community constantly inspires me.  I love making costumes (especially for my toddler), quilting, needle felting and occasionally crocheting something cozy, but my first love is sewing. I’m beyond excited to join the Sew News and Creative Machine Embroidery team!

Kate, Creative Editor

I started sewing when I was in college studying theatrical costuming. Later I found myself employed in a costume shop, where I enjoyed working with historical patterns and turning a design into reality. Though my sewing was sporadic for several years after I left the theater for editorial work, I have always cherished the sense of accomplishment I get when I take fabric and turn into something I can wear or use. And now, being the Creative Editor for Sew News, Creative Machine Embroidery and Sew It All allows me to combine my editorial career with a love of sewing – what could be better? As a bonus, after all those years of sewing costumes for other people, I’m finally getting to sew and embroider everyday garments and bags for myself.

E-MEDIA

Jill Case, Web Producer & Social Media Manager

I love sewing, fashion and all things vintage. I come from a long line of home seamstresses including my mom who taught me how to sew on her grandmother’s treadle sewing machine.  I started sewing doll clothes for my Skipper who was always fabulously dressed.  I soon moved up to sewing clothes for myself and found that there is nothing more thrilling than making something for me! I still don’t sew much for others, I’d rather be sewing something I can wear.  I love working for Sew NewsSew It All and Creative Machine Embroidery, and BurdaStyle to be surrounded by people who are so knowledgeable and creative and love creating as much as I do has been a high point of my work life.
