Fall Sewing Inspo + An Old Favorite Is Back!

It is official. I have begun to work on fall  sewing projects. I pulled out my very purple wool cape last weekend and was able to work on it during a lull in our heat wave. I now have most of the cape finished with only minor clean up and the hem to finish. After that all I’ll need is a very brisk fall day to wear it.

This cape has only taken me three years to finish. I started the cape back in March of 2014. My thoughts quickly turned to summer dresses and the entire cape was dropped like an itchy wool sweater. In 2015 I picked it back up again, late in the year. I had many problems with it, essentially starting completely over. At some point I just gave up on the darn thing only to revisit it last weekend and push through to near completion.

The cape is a boiled wool, not necessarily a tricky fabric by itself, but it’s lined with a slippery satin which can be tricky indeed. Plus, I made modifications to the pattern that may not have been ideal for the type of fabric I was using. Oh, and the pattern had quite different fabric recommendations, to which I should have paid attention. Ah, well. Live and learn, right?

As I finish this baby up, I’m looking forward to showing you some beauty shots of it. It’s still too hot to wear, but what a great way to look forward to the fall.

Have you begun to work on next season projects? If your area has no big changes in seasons, do you miss having four seasons to sew for? Let me know on the blog.
