Wearing an apron while preparing food, cleaning, watering plants, or creating art keeps clothes clean and dry, but it also helps kids focus on the task at hand-to "become" the chef, the dish washer, or the artist. The Basic Child's Apron features an elastic neck strap that fits easily over a child's head, even one with ponytails. A Velcro waist strap is easy for young children to manage.

Since the child needs no help from an adult to put on or take off the apron, it fosters independence and contributes to self-confidence. A sturdy, fully-lined construction means that the apron can withstand years of use.

Designed by Meg McElwee.

Just love the idea of elastic neck strap - so much easier than strap and buckle.  Thanks for the project!  :)

I tried 4 times to download this pattern and I could not get it.  What do I need on my computer in order to download this free pattern?  I have not had a problem downloading any other patterns..

Hi, I can't get it to download, either.  Nor the cute little girl's skirt.

I'm having problems with the download.  Just get a blank page.  Anyone have any suggestions?

for those having download problems, try another browser. i had no troubles with IE or Google Chrome, but it didn't work well with the latest Firefox release.

I, too, am having a problem with the download and haven't hyad problems with any other patterns nor pdf's.

I saw the comment about trying a browser other than Firefox but some of us do not have another browser.

Is there another solution. I get a blank page with a 1/4" black bar in the loweer lef-hand corner.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

We aren't sure exactly what the issue is, but Firefox seems to have compatibility issue with downloading pdfs. Files work fine when downloaded in other browsers, so if you have Chrome, Internet Explorer, or something else available, try that first and it should solve your problem. If you only have Firefox, I've found this work-around to be successful:

- Click "Download Now" above, like you normally would

- On the next page, instead of left-clicking the project name to open the pdf in your browser, RIGHT-click and then choose "save link as..."

That should let you save the pdf file directly to your computer instead of opening it in the browser.

If all else fails, I've gotten files to open by just trying multiple times - eventually the pdf loads.

Sorry for the inconvenience - hopefully Firefox will work out this bug soon!

The elastic neck strap is perfect for toddlers!  A better design for moms saving time and not having to tie like other aprons and better for children to practice self help skills.  Empowering their independence is so important!  This is a must have pattern!

This pattern is adorable and I love the idea of the flower markers for watering. Easy for little ones to put on independently too. Thanks so much!

The file is a pdf, so you'll have to have something that reads it. I use Foxit reader. I've made the simpler version on this apron several times now and I love it!

I am looking for a copy of the revisited version. I bought fabric today from my local quilt fabric shop that had it on display but the online links are dead. Whaaaa! Can you please tell me how to find this pattern? It is for my grandson who licks far away so I need to follow a pattern foe measurement, Thanks. Lauren in Atlanta

I will tell you that I have made TONS of aprons using this pattern and it's a GREAT pattern.  I especially love the fact that kids can put the apron on and off themselves.  The elastic neck strap fits lots of sizes.  Thanks so much for an excellent pattern.
