Hi - I'm a novice sewer  - I can sew pretty well but following a pattern is tricky. So I started on the both sides now wrap skirt and I've had trouble from the get go - I'm up to the waistband and it's like I need someone to translate.  Anyone else having trouble with the pattern? Anyone have any tips? I've been watching videos to see if that would help but I'm really hung up here. Anyone got any suggestions or ideas? Tia!

figured it out - the directions don't really mention how to handle the ties...perhaps some errata could be written for that?

Hi Anna: Glad you've figured it out! Here is an expanded version of the instructions, which I hope makes it more clear. Thanks!

Both Sides Now Wrap Skirt

Once your skirt pieces are sewn together, you will be attaching the waistband.

The waistband consists of three pieces. When these pieces sewn together on the short ends, one section of the seam will be left unsewn between the marked dots. This forms a slit for the other end of the longer waistband (tie) to pass through to wrap the skirt.

Step One: Sew the three pieces of the waistband/tie together. leaving the opening between the dots on the marked section. Press the seams open.

Step Two: Topstitch on each side of the opening in the seam just sewn.

Step Three:Wiith right sides together, pin the waistband/tie to the skirt matching up seams and notches. Stitch this section to the top of the skirt. Trim this seam to ¼” and press up. (The part of the waistband/tie that are not stitched to the body of the skirt will become the ties.)

Step Four: Press the unsewn section of the waistband/ties in half with the right sides together. Pin. At the side edges of the skirt continue stitching the length of the ties and across the end. Clip corners.

Step Five: Turn the ties right side out and press. There will be an unsewn section of waistband at the skirt body. Press under this seam allowance and slipstitch this section to the top of the skirt body.

You should have the waistband/ties sewn and finished with a small opening in the waistband/tie to slip the other end of the tie through when you overlap the skirt to wrap and tie.
