The current ready to wear jeans have shallow pockets. I do not like to carry a purse. I need pockets!!! Any ideas on how to make these ridiculous pockets deeper? I have a few thoughts, but I was wondering if anyone has actually done it so I can avoid errors.

Zippy Pouch Gusset

I am sewing the Zippy Pouch pattern from Sew Daily, and the instructions for attaching the gusset are very vague. Does anyone know of a video for attaching gussets I might be able to view for help. It is not a flat bottom pouch, but a 19 1/2" strip that gets attached to the front, back and zipper. Thanks for your help.

Dust remover spray

What are the fellow sewers out there using to clean their machines? What's the best dust can spray you have used? What are ones that you would never use again? I am reading up reviews on Amazon on a brand named Innovera. It is the cheapest on Amazon, which is why I am considering buying it. Some reviews say it leaves on coat of chemicals when cleaning their electronics, others say the can loses power right away. How about everyone else?

Stitch With Style 2013: 2 pattern downloads are missing

I was downloading all the patterns for the items in this issue and have come upon two patterns that are in the magazine but are not on this website.

The first one is the "Dahlia Purse" which is pictured on page 61 with the accompanying directions on page 123. It states that there is a downloadable pattern for this project but I can not find it anywhere on this website.

The second is for the "Sunshine Clutch" that is pictured on page 62 with directions starting on page 130. This also states there is a downloadable pattern but once again I have searched the site and haven't come across it.

Has anyone else encountered this issue as well? Are these patterns available and how do we download them?

Reversible Slouch Tote by Lisa Polderman

This is my first time sewing a bag / tote and I am relatively new to sewing. I purchased this magazine specifically for this pattern and am looking forward to the finished product.

At this time I am fusing interface and fleece. The pattern piece OUTER/INNER BAG (A) asks to cut 1 main (outer) and 3 contrast (inner) fabric, and 2 each of fusible fleece and interfacing. Do I fuse fleece to 1 main outer fabric piece and to one inner fabric? Do I fuse the interfacing to the other two inner fabric pieces?

Also more drawings would help, they could be added to the printed pattern and the figures could be referenced in the instructions in the magazine, since space in the magazine may be limited. I would like to see what the revers looks like and where the small and large inner pockets are placed.

Ok, just finished the tote. I would have liked a few more hints in the instructions, but it looks great. It shouldn't take me as long to make he second one.

My 18 year old daughter wants to learn to sew this summer. I'm looking for some type of program that teaches sewing, maybe for a 2-3 weeks. A residential program would be ideal, but I will consider other options. We are on Cape Cod, and I don't think I will find anything there, which is why I'd like to find a residential program. I'm wanting to cut sheets into 1/4" strips. But I don't understand how to "cut against the bias". Would someone please explain this to me? Perhaps include a picture of what I'm supposed to be looking for? Thank you all.

Overcast stitch vs overlock stitch

Hello, I am new at sewing and I've been teaching myself a lot of new techniques. I am making a new baby sleep sack, however, I am struggling with making the hem. The instructions say to use a serger, but if I don't have a serger, to use the overlock stitch on the raw edge. However, I have a Brother CS 770. The only stretch knit stitch I can find is overcasting stitch. Is this the same technique? Will it work with raw edge for hemming? Help? Thank yuo!

Another question, when so the autoship magazines usually go out? I haven't got my summer copy and there is no indication of when it is likely to come.

Flower Power Reversible Purse (Stitch Summer 2012)

Hi everyone!

I have been a subscriber of Stitch Magazine since 2011, and have done a couple of the projects featured there. However, just the other day, I was trying to recreate the Flower Power Reversible Purse by April Mofatt from the Summer 2012 issue of Stitch but I was having problems when it comes to the part of the tutorial where I had to attach the Shell Yoke to the Lining Purse Body and also the Lining Yoke to the Shell Purse Body. It seems that I don't really get the instruction very well and when I turned the back right side out, the yokes were still raw at the edges where supposedly they're attached and the wrong sides are facing the supposedly right side of the finished bag.

I ripped the entire project and now I am starting all over again. I have stopped at that part of the tutorial and tried to contact Ms. Mofatt through her website but I haven't got any response from her. Sad.

I would really appreciate if anyone would be able to help me regarding the tutorial.

I use to sew way back in high school and enjoyed it.

Had a birthday on 2/15 and decided that I wanted to sew again.

Brought a singer and other items and in my spare time I am teaching myself new things.

I would like to make my own clothes or make adjustment to the clothes I have because I am a plus sized women in the middle of shrinking (down 17lbs) and I don't like what I see out there. I love colors, I'm on a budget and would like to make the clothes I would like to wear.

Expert advice? Using a Brother ls2125i and having issues

The thread jams and the upper thread snaps off, this happens every so often when I'm sewing. A few days ago, I have been sewing with really bad, cheap thread and I had the same problem. I realized this and I tried to clean up my machine as best as possible (dusting, oiling, looking at nooks and crannies to clean). I also figured upper thread tension was the cause. Since then, I have changed the needle, used different thread (C&C thread), and lowered the tension and the stitching is a lot better. BUT this still occurs, not as frequently as before but when this does happen, I hear the dreaded jamming noise and I have to stop and fix this problem.

I really don't think it is the tension, but I still adjust it to see if the problem is solved, nope. I know poor quality thread can contribute to this and I just haven't had time to try out Gutermann, I will buy some but I still have a bunch of Coats and Clarks that I would like to use up. I never had this problem before until recently when I used my really bad thread. I don't know if using that and causing my machine to jam so many times put the machine in a fritz and it needs to get out of the phase but this never occurred when I first got the machine (which was only in December 2012).

Does anyone know what the specific cause may be? Other than trying to oil and clean, which I do on a regular basis. I have read reviews on this machine that others have similar problems but I'm hoping it's not the machine. Right now I think the culprit is cheap thread, but that does not explain how this problem never occurred before.

Ruffles Cut on the Curve...

I've been away from sewing for several years and I've just come across "Ruffles cut on the curve"... I'm the old school run two lines of stitching and pull to desired length" type of gal... What can you tell me about this technique? Is there a "how to" blog out there?

From a Shower Curtain and a Tablecloth...

Both were Raymond Waites. I found the print fabric for $18.99/yard (54" wide), but was able to get the Tablecloth, which was three yards of 60" wide for $14.99 total!

The blue/white scroll coordinates perfectly and was sufficiently wide (72") to allow two pillowcase/shams to be cut side-by-side.
