Freebie Friday: Coats & Clark Thread!

Jul 8, 2011

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to this week's edition of Freebie Friday!

This week we're giving away a large grab bag of thread from Coats & Clark. This package contains about 30 spools of thread of varying types and weights:

- Dual Duty XP General Purpose is sized for most hand and machine sewing needs. Use on all fibers, knits or wovens.

- Dual Duty XP Fine is a fine, but strong thread. Use for pucker-free seams in lightweight & silky fabrics.

- Dual Duty Plus Hand Quilting is designed as a strong, all-purpose hand quilting thread. Because it has a glace finish, it does not tangle, knot or twist while hand sewing. The glace finish also reduces abrasion on the thread which can cause fraying.

- Cotton Covered thread provides quilters with a thread that has the luster of natural cotton and the strength of polyester. This 35 wt thread has a 3-ply construction which gives extra strength, smoothness, and excellent stitch definition.

Leave a comment below to be entered to win (one comment per person), and we'll pick a winner next week. Have a great weekend!

Boy!!  Can I use thread!!  I'm always sewing a button on, or hemming something, or sewing something up.  I'm always rummaging through my sewing machine drawers, looking for thread.  Half the time, I don't have the color I need, or I'm out of a certain color.  I live in the country, and you can't just run up to the store to get what you need when you run out.  This is a great giveaway!!

After taking a class in "reverse-applique-Mola-from Panama", I am using general purpose, sewing thread (2 strands) to embroider seaweed on a mola-style wall hanging featuring fish.

Has anyone else done this?

I use a bit of wax to "tame" the strands of thread.

Thread has come a long way since the only thing I did was play with the spool once the thread was gone.  (One of my favorite childhood toys.)

Though we have better fibers and threads and more colors to use, we really pay the price.

Thankfully Coats and Clark have kept theirs reasonable and as such, make them my favorite threads.  Thank you Coats and Clark.

Growing up,  I spent many hours trailing my Mother in the fabric store. I always had a great memory for colors and so when she needed thread but forgot to bring a fabric scrap, I could always pick the right color. I miss those days with my Mom.
