Freebie Friday: Handmade Nation DVD

Apr 22, 2011

Happy Friday, and welcome to this week's Freebie Friday post!

Today is Earth Day, a holiday founded to promote awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment. On Earth Day we like to think more than usual about ways we can reduce, re-use, and recycle.

Sustainability is one of the reasons I first became interested in making things by hand. Crafters are always talking about ways to up-cycle and re-purpose. Most of my fabric stash consists of bed sheets and other fabric from thrift stores!

In the spirit of Earth Day and in celebration of making things by hand, we're giving away a copy of the Handmade Nation DVD this week. Handmade Nation documents the new wave of art, craft, and design that is capturing the attention of the nation. It is the feature film debut of director, author, artist + curator Faythe Levine. Faythe traveled to 15 cities and covered more than 19,000 miles to interview artists, crafters, makers, curators, and community members for this film.

Leave a comment below to be entered! We'll pick a winner sometime on Monday from the comments.

Enjoy your weekend! Go outside this Earth Day and enjoy nature - then come back in and sew up something recycled or re-purposed!

Oooo. Please pick me. I've been dying to see this documentary, even though I live in the same town as Faythe Levine! She is quite inspirational.

Ooo. Please pick me. I've been dying to see this documentary, but have not gotten my hands on a copy yet. Shame on me, as I live in the same town as Faythe Levine. I should have one you'd think!

I would love to have this dvd. My Mother taught me to reuse everything. She's 92 and having grown up in a large family in the depression, they didn't have much. I have carried over her philosophy into my generation & passed it on to my daughters. This dvd might show me some things I don't know. :)

Thanks for reading my comment.

OOHHH! Yes yes yes! I'd love to get this! I've persuaded an hand full of friends to join the crafting movement and this would be a fun thing for us to watch together (with some wine and knitting or sewing maybe?)

I'm excited to find new ways to recycle, reuse, and repurpose my TON of fabric and crafty stuff.  I must have enough fabric and notions that can stretch across America.. I need help!  I need inspiration!  I need this DVD....Please;)!!
