While we celebrate sewing every month here at Stitch magazine (especially now that we're creating four issues a year), we're proud to participate in the official National Sewing Month, co-sponsored by the American Sewing Guild and the Sewing & Craft Alliance.
National Sewing Month began in 1982, making it 28 years old this year,
and like many a 28-year-old, the celebration is hitting its stride.
SewaNew is the theme for 2010; according to the sponsors, the intent
is to "shine a fresh light on the choice to enhance your personal style
through fabric and machine." Whether you're a one-time sewist who is
rediscovering the pleasure of sewing--along with a treasure trove of
gorgeous new fabrics, handy notions, and modern patterns and designs--or
someone who is just learning, sewing is new again. This is exactly the
spirit that we try to bring to Stitch magazine with each issue;
even if your grandmother did it, sewing is the perfect activity for the
21st century and for contemporary creative expression.
To get in the spirit of National Sewing Month, head on over to the official website. You'll find a slew of helpful articles on the Guidelines page;
cute free project instructions, including the ruffled wristlet shown at
right and a zippered iPad/Kindle cover; and daily giveaways all month
long--just take their survey to be entered.

And speaking of surveys, please take a few minutes to take our first-ever Stitch survey (follow the link here). Stitch
is growing and expanding, and we want to be sure that we're in touch
with you, the readers who have helped us launch the magazine. This is
your chance to tell us everything you like and what you think we can do
better, and we're here to listen. We'll randomly select several survey
respondents to win a SideWinder bobbin winder, so don't delay! And then get back to your machine and make the most of National Sewing Month.
Happy sewing!
