  1. I totally agree with lissaplus2! I won’t accept the permissions on facebook, so I can’t enter this drawing. Not everybody wants to allow that kind of all encompassing access to their personal information.

  2. When I go to the facebook page to try and enter, there is no entry form – only a blank page… so I can’t enter… Boo Hiss I really want to win this machine!!

  3. Same here, I don’t want to accept some app that will have access to my info. Can’t we have the contests in some other form? Also, what about people that are not on Facebook?

  4. Yep…..it sucks. I understand companies need info to make money, but warn us prior to wasting time to try to enter a contest. Sorry, I’d love the machine but it’s not worth giving my info away…….Think of other ways to entice customers….

  5. Facebook requires apps for contests. Rest assured Interweave nor the contest provider are privy to any of your Facebook information by accepting the app and entering.
If you don’t feel comfortable entering via Facebook, feel free to send you submission to socialmedia@interweave.com. Just include name/email/zip code. We don’t want anyone to miss out! ~Steph

  6. Adding my agreements to others who won’t join Facebook, so can’t enter the contest. Why is the contest set up assuming everyone wants to join so called “Social Networks”?

  7. I also protest that this has to be on Facebook–some of us loyal followers do not choose to open ourselves to the world by joining facebook and are now being descriminated against

  8. would love to have a new sewing machine, but I can’t do it via facebook. I know this would be free advertising and I understand that but this world is getting too smart and too crazy for me. So if I can’t win via an entry that I type, then so be it. I still like the site.

  9. This machine would be great to carry to my quilting group, as the one I have is too heavy for me to carry. I am disabled and only able to help my group on Chairity Day, & cannot afford to buy another machine. Thank you for giving me a chance to win one.

  10. Bad idea to run this contest through Face Book. Singer’s decision, I’m sure, but I agree with most of the other comments here…too bad, I won’t enter and regret that I have no chance of winning the machine . Hope Singer gets this feedback!

  11. I, like many others, and do not subscribe to Facebook for the same reasons, and therefore cannot enter. Perhaps Singer will realize when they hear about the comments that they need to offer other methods for entry. (Thanks to Joanchek for information about Interweave. Will try that.)
All that being said, I love Singer products. I would really like a machine like this “Sweet” one to take with me when I go out of town or sewing retreats.

  12. I, like many others, do no utilize Facbook for the reasons already stated. Perhaps Singer (and other vendors) will read these comments and realize that and use other methods for contests. Now, that being said, I do want to say that I Love Singer products. I have used their machines all my life. I would love to win this “Sweet” machine to use at wewing retreats and take with me when I go out of town.
(Thanks Joancheck, will try the interweave site for entry.)

  13. I agree with many who have posted about the restriction of entering via Facebook. I am an avid FB user, but I am careful about allowances to others of private information and solicitation, so I won’t be entering this contest. Too bad; I love this site and would love a chance at winning this machine. My privacy, however, is more important.

  14. i think its terrible that you are making us sign up with facebook instead of just having us enter without facebook…
i am very disappointed and i know alot of people are.

not the way to have a free item offered out…

you will lose a lot of customers and people because of this

  15. Thank you Joanchek for providing the simple link that enabled me to enter this contest. I too do not like using Fecebook, although I do have an account with them. I realize that in today’s fast paced world, everything is interconnected, but to have to be a part of a social network that really does not have any reason to be associated with entering a contest, does seem to be exclusionary. Thanks again, Joan!

  16. While I greatly appreciate the opportunity to win this sewing machine, I, too, am weary and frankly quite cranky with numerous companies making Facebook the go-to place for coupons and contests. Don’t they understand that using Facebook opens their customers up to fraud and identity theft?

  17. I HAVE BEEN SEWING FOR 45 YEARS, AND I HAVE 6 SEWING MACHINES THAT ARE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OLD OR OLDER! THE THING IS NONE OF THEM WORK AND SOME YOU CAN’T EVEN GET PARTS FOR! I REALLY NEED A NEW SEWING MACHINE!! I HAVE 12 GRAND CHILDREN AND HAVE STARTED A QUILT FOR EACH ONE OF THEM. CUT OUT ALL THE BLOCKS, AND AM READY TO GO, BUT DON’T HAVE A MACHINE TO SEW THEM WITH!!! PLEASE, OH PLEASE LET ME WIN!!!!

  18. come on, Singer! everyone does not want to be on facebook! I sure love Singer sewing machines, I have 2 antique ones, a 1930 model, and a 1903 treadle. I sure would love to win a new one!!!!

  19. Let me add my displeasure at entering a contest on Facebook. Thank you, for giving details on how to enter without Facebook. Please include those details in the post next time.

  20. Not gonna do it. Wouldn’t be prudent. I would be nice for you to make it easier for people to enter if you really want to give away a sewing machine. Some of us spend more time sewing than we do online.

  22. I hope Interweave is paying attention to these comments regarding the disgusting practice of linking everything to facebook. Some of us are still hanging on to a modicum of privacy in spite of a world that is hell-bent on snatching it away from us.

Singer has been making wonderful machines for decades! Who among us would give up a featherweight or a 15-91? Didn’t think so.

Thanks for letting us enter without FB and maybe next time you can skip FB altogether.

  23. YAY! I’m adding my name to the list of objectors. There should ALWAYS be more than one way to enter a contest. After all, this site is about creativity and exploring options on how to create. I’ll be entering via the fork in the road,
Feels good to be among other creatives that speak up.
    Peace

  24. I agree with all the other posters about not wanting to use Face Book to enter any contest. I am getting tired of websites wanting everyone to access their information through FB, or asking to be “liked” on FB. I have quit using it because my daily life does not belong to the world! I used the alternate address to enter the contest.

  25. I’m with the others re facebook. I wish more people would take a stand. Thanks for giving us another way to enter!

I don’t have any sad stories of disabilities or a thousand grandkids but I’d love to win this anyway!

  26. ‘If you don’t feel comfortable entering via Facebook, feel free to send you submission to socialmedia@interweave.com. Just include name/email/zip code. We don’t want anyone to miss out!’ ~Steph

What does that mean? I went to interweave.com, what steps do we take after that? Until you respond…

I’m sad about the required promotion of Facebook in order to have a chance to win this Singer sewing machine. I began sewing for my daughter in the 70s, sewing home decor and now for my granddaughters. My 30+ yo sewing machine has taken it’s last loud breath before passing. The last vestige of crafting happiness has fallen and finances keep me from purchasing another. Not being a sore loser, I’m sure another deserving individual will win this machine. Good luck. : )

  27. You can enter the Singer Sewing Machine contest at:

    interweave.upickem.net/…/3733p3hd3pz

and all they ask for is first name, email, and zip code. You DO NOT have to enter thru Face Book.

    Good Luck all.

  28. Yes, contests more and more require facebook and I DO NOT want to be on facebook. At all and probably ever. I do not want even understand the attaction to this invasive activity. What I have seen through friends who are on facebook is meaningless drama. and tedious communication.
I do not appreciate being excluded from these chances, small though they are, but I will not be forces into participation.

  29. I don’t use Facebook at all. Agree it’s VERY ANNOYING to wish to enter a contest and find it can only be done through Facebook. Companies who are Facebook centric don’t get my business.

  30. THANK YOU xstfoc, I entered @ interweave.upickem.net and, sure enough, the entry information came up. Adding /…/3733p3hd3pz on the end only came up with an error message.

Good luck to us ALL! : )

  31. Thank you faithful_lady. There are so many contests that one can not enter because one refuses to be part of Facebook. I used your link and was able to enter this contest. I absolutely refuse to be part of Facebook.

  32. So, let me see if I have this right…I can enter the contest via Facebook, BUT there doesn’t seem to be any way to access what I need on Facebook, AND if I don’t like to use Facebook I am out of luck. Is there really a sewing machine that will be given away?? There are a lot of people who would like to enter and not compromise themselves in the process.

  33. I’m joining the growing number of people here who object to having to use a FB app to sign up for this give-away. I will not use such apps. So I cannot enter? And some people refuse to use or simply are not on Facebook. What about them? Is there any other way to enter this give-away without having to go through FB and have to use a FB app that takes our personal information?

  34. not keen on facebook AT ALL so… took the advise of “faithful’s” comment & submitted my entry and seemed to work just fine. Thanks a bunch “faithful”!

  35. I’m glad to see I’m not alone in refusing to go to Facebook for a contest – no matter how enticing the prize!

It would have been helpful if you had added the alternate entry method to the actual post instead of just in the comments. I almost closed this when I saw the Facebook requirement and I would suspect others didn’t look at the comments section after they saw the restriction.

I hope that you will pass on to the folks at Singer that many of your followers don’t want to expose themselves to the dangers or invasions of Facebook.

  36. I totally agree with all those who don’t like the idea of being forced to use facebook to enter. I give Singer an F minus for this manipulative move.

  37. I agree with so many of the others here – I am extremely disappointed in Singer for doing this on Facebook. I will not enter the contest either since I don’t allow facebook access to my info.

  38. I agree that entering via Facebook is a “no-no”, so thanks for the email link. However, I don’t have a “zipcode” – just a “postcode” as I am in the UK. Do I qualify to enter this comp or is it restricted to US residents?

  39. I also object to entering a contest that has anything to do with facebook. Just going to say no to sharing my personal info, certainly no way to run a contest! I hope Interweave is paying attention to the anti-facebook comments.

  40. Not,NOT giving out my name or personal info for Facebook or any Facebook -like social media. This is really just a come-on and I resent having to give all that information to enter your contest. L

  41. I agree with everyone. I would love to enter this contest. I fail to see the purpose of going through facebook.
Please change your mind and let us enter through your web site.

  43. One more comment about Facebook. I do not have an account. Don’t plan on getting one. Love my Cloth paper Scissors mag and looking into getting Sew Daily. Love my Singer, but yes, time for a New one!!!!

  44. I agree with lissaplus2. LindaK, laminitagirl, Zinah, Regina, et. al… I don’t do facebook apps. Not for anything. I’m glad to see that, 7 comments down, you do provide us with another option for entering. It’s a shame that you had to generate so many negative comments by putting the giveaway on facebook in the first place. I’m pretty sure negative comments are not what you were looking for, yeah?

  46. I would love to have a new Singer machine. i learned how to sew when i was very young on an old treadle Singer machine. i haven’t stopped sewing since. Good luck to me.

  47. I also don’t enter contests that operate through Facebook. But be sure to read the privacy policy if you use the UPICKEM site. You, like me, may not like that policy of F&W either, to collect information on every site you go to and on your computer. Be wary, gals!!

Does sending an email to interweave bypass this F&W agreement also?

  48. I would love to win this gorgeous machine, I would love a new one to take to classes and our Charity Quilt Group that meets monthly, mine is getting a bit worn out from all the use.

  50. I missed the contest, but I do have a tip for you: set up a dummy fb account only for entering contests. I don’t think mine has anything personal but some version of my name on it, and my secondary email address. That’s it. If it took me as much as two minutes to set up, I’d be surprised.
