High-End Hack: Pom-pom Shoe Embellishment Tutorial

Welcome to the second installment of the High-End Hack: Shoe Embellishment Tutorials.

Bedazzled shoes are everywhere and adorned with everything: embroidery, pom-poms, tassels, beading — you name it. With a few simple steps, it’s easy (and inexpensive!) to transform a pair of basic flat mules into designer flats.

Follow these simple step-by-step photos to create your own luxe pair of pom-pom adorned shoes!

  • Basic mule flats
  • 3 fur/faux fur pompoms
  • Invisible thread
  • Hand-sewing needle
  • Pin backs

Purchase a pair of plain flat mules.

Take (3) 4″-squares of faux fur/fur in different colors that complement each other. Sew the edges of the square together creating a pompom shape. Fill the inside with batting if needed. You can also purchase premade fur pompoms.

Stitch the three pompoms together on the underside where any edges may be visible using invisible thread. KNot and tie off.

Stitch a pin back to the underside of the group pompoms.

Repeat to make one other grouped fur pompoms.

Pin to the mule’s front and center. High End Hack

Unpin the design to feature additional shoe adornment options. With each new look, the shoes take on their own unique style and become outfit makers.
