CUT

Cut one oven mitt from the muslin, one from the brown cotton fabric, two from the fusible interfacing and two from the iron quick fabric.

Fuse the interfacing to the muslin and brown cotton fabric wrong sides following the manufacturer’s instructions.

From the yellow felt, cut feathers 1 through 3. From the red felt, cut feathers 4 through 8 and one wattle. From the orange felt, cut feathers 9 through 13 and one beak. From the brown felt, cut one turkey body.

MAKE THE TURKEY

Position the muslin over the pattern and place it on a window. Use a fabric-marking pen to trace the position of the tips for feathers 1-8 on the muslin oven mitt. Position the yellow feathers on the muslin; pin.

Thread the machine with yellow thread in the top and off-white in the bobbin. Place a piece of tear-away stabilizer under the muslin; straight stitch down the center of each yellow feather.

Position the red feathers on the muslin, overlapping the yellow feathers; pin. Thread the machine with red thread in the top. Straight stitch down the center of each red feather.

Repeat to stitch the orange feathers in place using orange thread.

Position the wattle on the turkey body; stitch down the center using red thread. Position the beak on the turkey body, overlapping the wattle. Stitch down the beak center using orange thread.

Position the turkey body on the muslin, overlapping the feather lower edges; pin. Using brown thread, edgestitch around the turkey body.

Use a fabric-marking pen to draw the turkey feet. Straight stitch over the feet using brown thread.

Tear away the stabilizer.

CONSTRUCT

Place one iron quick mitt shiny side down on a flat work surface. Place the turkey mitt right side up over the iron quick, aligning the edges; pin.

Place the remaining iron quick mitt shiny side down on the work surface. Place the brown cotton fabric mitt right side up over the iron quick, aligning the edges; pin.

With right sides facing, pin the turkey and brown oven mitts together, aligning the edges.

Using a 1/4” seam, stitch around the mitt, leaving the lower edge free. Clip the inner thumb and around the curves, being careful not to cut through the stitching.

Turn up the lower edge 1/4”; press. Turn up the edge 1/4” again; press. Stitch to secure.

Turn the mitt right side out. Glue the google eyes in place above the beak; allow the glue to dry before using the mitt.
